About Foster's Trail & Alpaca Farm

Foster's Trail & Alpaca farm was established in May of 2007. In 2005, we were living in Marietta, GA, a busy area located in the East Cobb suburbs of Atlanta, GA. Atlanta’s growth, traffic and urban sprawl had started to become a drain on us and we knew a lifestyle change was in order. While we ended up re-settling Cleveland, Tennessee, we looked at several other locations, including Friday Harbor, WA; Margate, NJ; and Williamsport, Pa. It was the rich heritage and bucolic setting of Susan’s hometown that eventually helped us make the decision to move to Cleveland. That and the beautiful house we found there. Renovations began in 2005, and we moved in June, 2006.

Part of the renovations included adding fencing for our two Australian Terriers, Foster and Abbey. While the dogs loved having full run of the 5-plus acre pasture behind the house, we realized quickly that something was still missing. The pasture land was beautiful but we still needed to be focused on a business that would be profitable and enjoyable. We considered horses and cows but felt neither option was suitable for our property. Then, as luck would have it on 12/26/06, there was an article in our local newspaper, Cleveland Daily Banner, titled “Alpacas in fashion on the farm – and runway”. Lovely animals. Sound business. Potential for significant income. We were hooked! We started researching alpacas and visiting local farms. We fell in love with these adorable creatures and knew they would be the perfect fit for Foster's Trail which became Foster's Trail & Alpaca Farm.

We started with 2 bred females and 1 gelding in May, 2007. By August of that same year, we had grown to 9 with the addition of 2 male cria and 4 more bred females. Our blood lines now include genetics from such industry-leaders as 4Peruvian Legacy, 2Peruvian Augusto, 2Peruvian Caligula, 2Peruvian Victor, 2Peruvian Felix, and Peruvian Hemingway. The FTAF (Foster’s Trail and Alpaca Farm) herd is truly amazing to see.

More cria arrive each year, Foster has plenty of friends, and we have never looked back! Browse the pages of our website, or better yet, give us a call, and come visit Foster’s Trail and Alpaca Farm.
